Craig Beattie, 35, has been cleared of the manslaughter of his son Kye Kerr by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court.
The jury heard that Mr Justice Peter Jackson said Beattie was to blame for six-week-old Kye's death in Carlisle.
Beattie, formerly of Harraby, Carlisle, was arrested two years after the death and had remained on remand.
He was accused of killing Kye Levi Beattie Kerr in July 2011.
